About Steph

My name is Steph and I’m the writer here at Orangespoken.

Orangespoken is where I’m outspoken about life, love, food and fitness.

Orangespoken is my story. Since losing my mom to breast cancer, I now see the world through orange colored glasses. Seeing the world this way means seeing the brighter side of things. Helping to inspire others to shine and love who they are. Taking those moments to soak up the sunshine. Dedicating time to making memories. Going after goals and living in each moment. Finding ways to live my healthiest, happiest life, and inspiring others to do the same. Because in the end, I want to look back on my life and say “wow, that was amazing!”

When I’m not blogging, I’m a new teacher mentor and professional development trainer. I am in love with an amazing guy named Brian (taste tester and running buddy), and two pokey little cats named George and Junior. In my free time I also enjoy camping, crafting, writing, shopping and learning anything and everything.

In April of 2012 I lost my mother to breast cancer. Orangespoken highlights Team Judy and the events we’re involved with for breast cancer advocacy and fundraising.

This blog encompasses my words. It’s a reminder of how my life has changed since my mother’s passing. The color orange has come to represent my mother, my strength, my successes, my finish lines, my words, my thoughts, my memories. I see the world in orange colored glasses now, and that reflects through Orangespoken.

My journey to health

I’ve been “overweight” practically all of my life. A couple of years ago, after living at a whopping 368lbs for a good 5 years or so, I decided something needed to happen.

I started by walking, which lead to “wogging” (SLOW jogging basically lol), which led me to complete my first 5k race.

That first race opened a world of opportunities for me. I was hooked on 5ks and enjoyed that amazing feeling of accomplishment. Since then I have completed 24 races, including a half marathon, 15k, obstacle course runs, mud runs and two sprint distance triathlons!

A little over 2 yrs ago I joined Orange Theory Fitness. They have helped me reach more goals, increase strength, flexibility and so much more! Although I’m nowhere near where I want to be, I’m nowhere near where I was. And THAT is what keeps me going!

  1. STEPH!!! I think I just found my spirit animal! LOL. My name is Jen and I’m a breast cancer survivor (2014!) and a runner (21 half marathons, 2 full marathons) AND I’m thinking of starting at Orangetheory because I gained a crapload of weight from chemo and steroids. My endurance is crap. I look like a weeble wobble. I found your blog and I LOVE it! I would love to pick your brain to get advice, etc. Also, I should mention…orange is my favorite color πŸ™‚
