Two years ago today I met the guy I’m lucky enough to call my boyfriend.
Our first date was dinner at a sports bar watching the Rays play. For almost the entire time he didn’t make eye contact with me. He’d either look down, look past or look at the game, occasionally meeting my eyes, but then quickly diverting somewhere else. At the time, I had come to grips with the fact that this would be just another free meal with an adorable guy who was most definitely not interested. We watched the entire game, then I drove him to his car since it was pouring rain outside and we were parked on opposite sides of the lot. We chatted in my truck for a while and when he went in for a good night kiss, I obliviously turned away, having him smack one on my cheek. It wasn’t until we were driving home after our date had ended, when he called “just to talk”, that I knew he was different, and that this could potentially be something special.
I did eventually ask, months later of course, about the lack of eye contact on that first date. His response? I intimidated him! That was a total first for me, Luckily, two years later, that adorable guy would turn out to be my best friend and love of my life. Here are some fun facts about this amazing guy I get to call my boyfriend.
He’s so funny. He tells the most ridiculous, and often offensive, jokes that I swear I never laugh at. But his uncontrollable laughter at that fact that they’re SO bad and I’m not impressed makes me end up laughing at with him. Here’s his most favorite: There was a papa camel with two humps, a mama camel with one hump and they had a baby with no humps. Guess what they named him…… Humphrey. Get it? Hump-free? Oh boy.
He’s smart. He totally outscores me in Jeopardy. I’m definitely not good at keeping up with world events, and when he asks “hey did you see what happened to……” and I respond with a blank stare, he just gives me a little grin and I vow to read the paper more often!
He loves our cats. He takes care of them way more than I do. And it’s so cute.
He’s not afraid of killing creepy crawlies that come into our house. And only laughs at me a little bit when I’m climbing on top of the sofa.
He brings out the best in me. He makes me feel like I’m the best in the world and gives me the confidence to reach any goal I set for myself.
His favorite movie is Spaceballs. I’m almost positive he could reenact the entire movie. “I’m a mog. Half-man, half-dog. I’m my own best friend.”
He LOVES sports. Especially football. His favorite time of the year is August- February. He becomes giddy at the thought of the fantasy football draft!
He gets me. All my quirks, silliness, dorkiness- he understands it all.
He’s a hard worker. He hates to miss a day of work and won’t even take a sick day. He actually enjoys working! At least he’s willing to take vacation days for our little excursions here and there. 😉
He loves cookies. Especially home made ones. And Milanos.
He’s a wordy. Crossword puzzles, Scrabble, etc. You name it, he can decipher it and drop a 100 point word with ease.
He’s kind. In two years (that’s 730 days!) of dating, he has never uttered an unkind word to me. His words are always filled with love and even when he gets annoyed with me, it’s so short lived and within minutes I’m back in his arms again. He’s a good son, a loyal brother, a true friend, and a caring boyfriend that I cannot believe I get to wake up to every morning.
Happy Anniversary Brian! My love for you grows everyday. I’m so lucky to have you in my life. I cannot wait to see what our future brings. I love you!
-Steph 🙂
Happy 2 years to you guys! You’re so adorable together. It’s too funny that he said you intimidated him on the first date. Mike said the same thing of me when we first met. I guess we are just two very strong women! 🙂 Have a great day celebrating your anniversary!
Ha!!! I guess so! Thank you! 😀
