If you can’t tell by now, I’m trying to write some posts based on some of the searches that drive readers to my blog.
A few weeks ago it was Healthy cooking for beginners. Prior to that it was an article for people thinking they were Too fat for a gym. I’ve also blogged about Completing your first 5k, how to Never Stop Starting and even how to get over the Anxiety of a OB-GYN visit.
Lately I’ve been getting a lot of traffic to Orangespoken from people searching for plus size active wear recommendations. Believe me… I get it. I know just how difficult workouts can be if you’re wearing the wrong clothes.
Wedgies, waistbands rolling down, shirts rolling up, boobies bouncing around, shorts riding up thighs; I’ve seen and experienced it ALL. When I was a 4x (26/28), I mostly wore workout or yoga capris and t-shirts, however, as my body has changed, I’ve been more willing to try other options, colors and fits. I’m currently wearing around a 1x to 2x in shirts (size 20 jeans, 18 trousers). It took me a while to find what works for me and have narrowed it down to some tried and true pieces that can take me from the treadmill to the weight room, the rowers, the pool, the bike, yoga, a 5k and beyond. Here are some of my favorites… from head to toe!
Head: I don’t wear much when it comes to my head, mostly because of the thick craziness I call hair. However, I do wear a strong headband to keep things out of my face!
Tops: Most of the time I wear some type of dri-fit tee or tank for workouts at Orangetheory. Right now I’m loving Old Navy’s Active Compression tank (all Old Navy active wear comes in sizes XS-4XL, but you’ll have to order plus sizes online as they don’t carry plus sized clothing in the store), Old Navy’s Active Mesh top, Champion’s Double Dry women’s plus size shirt and for swimming/triathlon training, I wear Junonia’s QuikEnergy Racerback Scoopneck Princess tankini.
Bottoms: For daily workouts you’ll usually find me in these Old Navy Active Compression Capris (again size XS-4XL; plus sizes online), Old Navy Active Fold Over Capris , and for swimming/triathlon, Junonia’s QuickEnergy Long Fitted boy short (great for biking too!).
Undergarments: My favorite workout bra is Catherine’s Logo Scoop Neck sports bra (sizes 0X-6x), the BEST no-wedgie workout panties have to be Warner’s No Wedgies No Worries briefs (medium-xxxl), and for socks I love Feetures! Elite.
What are your favorite pieces to workout in? -Steph π

I have never worn activewear in my entire life. I see others wearing it but never me. I wear capris, sweats, and t-shirts. I think it’s time for change and venture out into something new.
I hope you win Robin! Both of these pieces are super cute!!!!

Tops are the bear for me – even when I used to be a skinny runner ( a long, long 20 yrs ago) I suffered from bounce factor. Good to see a practical post on a useful topic

Thanks Stacey! The top I’m giving away has a built in bra for extra support!
OM….WOOOOORD! You look fabulous! I am SO FREAKIN’ proud of you!!!!!! Seeing you rock the ‘ish outta that tank makes me want to give it a whirl. I usually wear crappy ill-fitting tees when I workout…not flattering. I could def use those cute tops! PS…you’re still my motivator. xo
You’re too kind!!!! xoxoxoxoxoxoxo Muah!

You’re so inspirational Steph! I normally wear baggy tees and shorts to work out in and they totally get in the way. I have been wanting to try yoga and get more active outdoors. I could definitely use some workout clothes (compression= major bonus!!) π

Aw, thanks Crystal! Deep down inside I’m not all that brave, but when fighting t-shirts at the gym got annoying, I figured I had to try something more form fitting. SO happy I did!
This would be wonderful! Just started working out and is so hard to find clothes that fit well to exercise in!
It SOOOO makes you feel great when you wear something that well, makes you feel great.
I agree Shannon! Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for the website with the plus size gear. Itβs so hard to find period and when you do it usually costs and arm and a leg. Moreover, I definitely love your activewear! #OOTD
